Thanks to SPCA International and their Operation: Baghdad Pups, we had the wonderful pleasure of witnessing another reunion between a U.S. serviceman and companion. Meet Ian and Lezli Clark and their new cat Gus!

As you can probably tell, Gus is no pup! He is a 2-year-old Domestic Short Hair that Ian says “found him” while deployed in Kuwait! Ian said it was good because Gus kept the mice population down, which in turn kept the snakes away. So, they started feeding him some tuna, and Gus became like a mascot; everyone knew him.

When Ian found out that cats were going to be considered “pests” and that they would start exterminating them, Ian said “not gunna happen!”. He reached out to SPCAI who helped relocate Gus to his new forever home where he was reunited with his dad and introduced to his mom.

Lezli, meeting Gus for the first time tonight said that he could not have come at a better time. The Clarks recently had to say goodbye to their 17-year-old cat, so Lezli was extremely excited to bring their new friend back home. She has only seen Gus via Facetime when talking with Ian. Gus is happy to see Ian again, already nuzzling into his arm! Gus was quite the attention seeker while staying at the ARK Pet Oasis, ‘meowing’ at anyone who walked by, looking for love and pets anywhere he can get!

Once again, we are so honored to be a small part of such a great mission.

Thank you SPCAI!
